WEDDING PASTOR DAVE & ASSOCIATES
P R A Y E R S
God thanks. We know that marriage is your idea. We are grateful for this gathering; for the love that surrounds and unites us all; for your love guides our paths and gives meaning to our lives. Thank you for the peace granted us this day; for the hope with which we expect tomorrow, and especially for the special love between (Groom & Bride) that brings us here today! As your love lives in them, may your love be renewed in each of us as well. In your name we pray - Amen.
PRAYER OF BLESSING FOR COUPLE
by Dave Page
Heavenly Father, we come today asking your blessing upon (Groom & Bride) and this new home being established. We are thankful for the love we see here today, and even more, for the love we feel from you. May we never take your love for granted.
We pray that your love will be a shield for (Groom & Bride). When joy comes, may they share it together. When sorrow threatens, may they bear it together. In gladness or in tears, in sunshine or rain may they ever draw closer to each other and nearer to you. Grant them your love, patience, gentleness, perseverance, and understanding. O Father, protect their home from those forces that would seek to break it apart. May you be an anchor and a shield for (Groom & Bride). In your name we pray - Amen.
THE BENEDICTION (A Priestly Prayer)
Aaron & his Sons (Numbers 6:24-26)
May the Lord bless you and keep you;
May the Lord make His face shine on you,
And be gracious to you;
May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.
THE LORD'S PRAYER (Matthew 6:9-13)
by Jesus Christ
Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil;
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
THE PRAYER OF ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI
By St. Francis of Assisi
Lord, make us instruments of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let us sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is discord, union;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master,
Grant that we may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
TRADITIONAL IRISH BLESSING
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
May God be with you and bless you;
May you see your children's children.
May you be poor in misfortune,
Rich in blessings,
May you know nothing but happiness
From this day forward.
May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the warm rays of sun fall upon your home
And may the hand of a friend always be near.
May green be the grass you walk on,
May blue be the skies above you,
May pure be the joys that surround you,
May true be the hearts that love you.
By Robert Louis Stevenson
Lord, behold our family here assembled.
We thank you for this place in which we dwell,
for the love that unites us,
for the peace accorded us this day,
for the hope with which we expect the morrow,
for the health, the work, the food,
and the bright skies that make our lives delightful;
for our friends in all parts of the earth.
APACHE MARRIAGE BLESSING
Now you will feel no rain, for each of you will be the shelter for each other. Now you will feel no cold, for each of you will be the warmth for the other. Now you are two persons, but there is only one life before. Go now to your dwelling place to enter into the days of your life together. And may your days be good and long upon the earth.
Treat yourselves and each other with respect, and remind yourselves often of what brought you together. Give the highest priority to the tenderness, gentleness and kindness that your connection deserves. When frustration, difficulty and fear assail your relationship - as they threaten all relationships at one time or another - remember to focus on what is right between you, not only the part which seems wrong. In this way, you can ride out the storms when clouds hide the face of the sun in your lives - remembering that even if you lose sight of it for a moment, the sun is still there. And if each of you takes responsibility for the quality of your life together, it will be marked by abundance and delight.
THE SERENITY PRAYER
By Reinhold Niebuhr
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardship as the pathway to peace.
Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it.
Trusting that He will make all things right,
If I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with Him forever in the next.
ROYAL WEDDING PRAYER
By Prince William & Kate Middleton
God our Father, we thank you for our families;
for the love that we share and for the joy of our marriage.
In the busyness of each day keep our eyes fixed on
what is real and important in life
And help us to be generous with our time and love and energy.
Strengthened by our union,
Help us to serve and comfort those who suffer.
We ask this in the Spirit of Jesus Christ.
THE NEW CHURCH OF ENGLAND PRAYER
God of all grace, friend and companion,
look in favor on William and Catherine
and all who are made one in marriage.
In your love deepen their love and strengthen their wills
to keep the promises they will make,
that they may continue in life-long faithfulness to each other;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
WEDDING PRAYER FOR GUIDANCE
Hand in hand, we come before you, O Lord.
Hand in hand, we are stepping out in faith.
We, who are gathered here, ask that you would take this couple into your hands Help them, O Lord, to keep firm in the commitments they have just made.
Guide them, O God, as they become a family, as they each change through the years. May they be flexible as they are faithful.
And Lord, help us all to be your hands if there be need. Strengthen, tenderly all of our commitments, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
A PRAYER OF BLESSING
Join with me as we ask God's blessing on this new couple.
Eternal Father, redeemer, we now turn to you, and as the first act of this couple in their newly formed union, we ask you to protect their home. May they always turn to you for guidance, for strength, for provision and direction. May they glorify you in the choices they make, in the ministries they involve themselves in, and in all that they do. Use them to draw others to yourself, and let them stand as a testimony to the world of your faithfulness. We ask this in Jesus name, Amen.
May the love of God be above you to overshadow you,
beneath you to uphold you,
before you to guide you,
behind you to protect you,
close beside you and within you to make you able for all things,
and to reward your faithfulness with the joy and peace
which the world cannot give -- neither can it take away.
Through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
to whom be glory now and evermore.
THE TRADITIONAL JEWISH SEVEN BLESSINGS
Blessed are You, Adonai our God, King of the Universe, Creator of the fruit of the vine.
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who has created everything for your glory.
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Creator of Human Beings
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who has fashioned human beings in your image, according to your likeness and has fashioned from it a lasting mold.
Blessed are You Adonai, Creator of Human Beings. Bring intense joy and exultation to the barren one (Jerusalem) through the ingathering of her children amidst her in gladness.
Blessed are You, Adonai, Who gladdens Zion through her children. Gladden the beloved companions as You gladdened Your creatures in the garden of Eden. Blessed are You, Adonai, Who gladdens groom and bride.
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who created joy and gladness, groom and bride, mirth, glad song, pleasure, delight, love, brotherhood, peace, and companionship. Adonai, our God, let there soon be heard in the cities of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem the sound of joy and the sound of gladness, the voice of the groom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the grooms jubilance from their canopies and of the youths from their song-filled feasts. Blessed are You Who causes the groom to rejoice with his bride.
